How can a cancer cell go from treatable to lethal?
Researchers in Israel and France melanoma that is learning they have found an answer – and they’re hoping that it would lead to better treatment of the most deadly type of skin cancer.62 SMALL LIFESTYLE CHANGES TO A SLIMMER BODY P6
Their research, recently published in the journal Molecular Cell, focuses on the “trigger,” or the true point in which a cancer tumour mobile transforms from non-invasive (non-lethal) to invasive (possibly deadly). By pinpointing exactly whenever this “trigger” occurs, doctors need to be able to avoid cancer cells from becoming aggressive.
“When I saw the outcomes, we jumped out of the room and shouted, ‘We got it! ‘” study leader Dr. Carmit Levy, of Tel Aviv University’s Sackler School of Medicine, said in a statement. “Now we realize what things to block that we know the triggers of melanoma transformation therefore the form of signaling that leads to that particular transformation. The trick was to solve the mystery, so we did.”
Technion Institute of Technology, Sheba Medical Center and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem – in addition to the Institut Gustave Roussy in France contributed to the research in addition to Levy, researchers from four Israeli institutions – Tel Aviv University.
a scenario that is ideal melanoma patients, Levy said, is that the cancer is caught with time and eliminated before spreading (metastasizing) through the bloodstream along with other parts of the body. But until now, physicians were not in a position to determine when or how this invasion that is aggressive. Aided by the findings from the team that is international doctors may be able to better predict a patient’s cancer journey and, in turn, increase their chances of survival.
“Normal skin cells are not supposed to ‘travel, ‘” said Levy. “We found that after melanoma is situated during the uppermost layer, a trigger sends it right down to the dermis and then further right down to invade blood vessels. For the most truly effective layer, block it from invading the bloodstream. We could stop the progression of the cancer. Whenever we could stop it”
Promising as this extensive scientific studies are, it does not mean to say that melanoma is any less deadly, or that skin cancer is any less of a threat. Doctors still recommend these steps to prevent melanoma and other types of skin cancer:
Limit sunlight exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Whenever in the sun, wear a hat, long-sleeved shirt and sunglasses.
Use spectrum that is pronounced with a minimum 30 SPF that blocks both UVA and UVB rays.
Avoid tanning beds.
